The second time, fate is louder than his pain and only thanks to his ilu’s restless cries that pull Jake from sleep, and pull Lo’ak back from a point he cannot return from alone.
Only then does Jake truly see him.
Not just how close he came to losing another son, but he also realizes that Lo’ak, all because of him, stopped valuing life, he stopped believing his own life mattered. Especially to the one person whose approval he chased. This much damage can be done by emotional blindness, about love assumed instead of shown, and about a father realizing too late that silence can be just as deadly.
