"Do you remember?" Eddie asks, in lieu of absolutely nothing. Steve doesn't look up from his place beside the hospital bed, flips his magazine page with a frown.
"Remember what?"
"All those times... before all of this."
Steve looks up, meets the dark eyes peering over at him. The steady beep of the heart monitor picks up for the briefest moment, and Steve bites the inside of his cheek. He could lie. It would be easy. But-
"...yeah. I do."

Summary
The light is different.
That’s the first thing Eddie notices when Wayne wheels him out of the front doors of Hawkins General. He’s got two pints of Steve Harrington’s blood in him and four inches less long-intestine than he should and a hole where half the muscles of his left leg should be; all sorts of things are new and different and alarmingly changed but it’s the light he notices. He’s free, now, after all those long months of surgery after surgery after morphine-hazy nightmare and he should be overjoyed, should be flipping off his erstwhile prison and crowing his survival at the top of his lungs but the light is different and all he can do is stare.Or: Eddie comes back wrong.
