Shane was regretting his choices.
To most of the student body, this party was probably the best place to be the night of the last day of exams. To Shane and his delicate Canadian sensibilities, all he could see were the sheer amount of gross outdoor shoes getting all over the nice floors of what was clearly a Girl House. Beyond that, it was nothing but bodies, bodies, bodies, and so much noise – Kesha was blasting over the speakers and everyone was talking at the top of their lungs to be heard over the dulcet tones of Die Young.
Outwardly, it looked like the perfect college party. Shane, who had been abandoned by Hayden about half an hour ago as he wandered off with Jackie, was not thinking along those lines.

To the left of the altar, where the monotone priest droned on and on, a group of a dozen kids stood off to the side. They were all dressed in white robes, which normally would’ve creeped Mark out – actually, it did creep Mark out – until he honed in on a boy almost hidden in the top row.
The boy’s eyes were wide and unguarded – too innocent, too open, like something not meant for this world. His lips were parted just slightly, full and pink, soft enough to bruise. Mark stared, half in awe, half in hunger.

Sydney’s heart sank as she registered the message in front of her.
"Hey Carman," the email read, somehow misspelling Carmy’s name, "It’s Adam. I’m sure Syd’s told you about the CDC position I’ve offered her at my new place. I just want you to know that it isn’t personal – she’s so fucking talented, you know? She’s going places, and I want to help her get there. I couldn’t let that kind of talent go without a fight.
