Ten years after the events of season 4, everyone has long since left Hawkins, except for Steve. He's still stuck.
Until Dustin and Robin convince him to come to a Corroded Coffin concert in Indianapolis as a sort of reunion with everyone in their monster hunting family.
Steve is reluctant, because he has been hiding an embarrassing crush on Eddie for a long time and seeing him perform live would certainly reveal that secret.

A traumatic brain injury leads to a downward spiral for Steve. He's dropped from the Blackhawks, his recovery is slow and rocky, and he's got no idea what to do with his life.
Enter his old friends, Eddie and Dustin, who spend their time poking around decrepit haunted locations filming for their YouTube channel. Steve doesn't really believe in all this ghost stuff, but he's got nothing better to do than join them.
Besides, he might just be ever-so-slightly head-over-heels for Eddie Munson.

Summary
The Problem: a lie has always been easier than a truth. Three years ago Viktor had told his family he was happy. Well on his way towards his PHD, married, planning for a future with more family on the way. He had sunk more time into this lie than into his own life.
When he’s invited home to attend a wedding, he needs a way to portray this lie as a reality.
The Solution: Down the street from his apartment at his least favorite coffee shop in a 20-mile radius, Viktor finds his estranged friend-slash-ex-not-really-boyfriend working the bar. It’s like the universe has smiled upon him for the first time in twenty years. Then it kicks him in the teeth again.
He and Jayce have always been in not-love. There is nothing between them that can be saved.
The New Problem: a lie has always been easier than a truth. Jayce is the only person Viktor cannot seem to lie to.
