Summary
The event horizon is the spherical outer boundary of a black hole loosely considered to be its surface. It is the point that the gravitational influence of the black hole becomes so great that not even light is fast enough to escape it. Within the event horizon, one would find the black hole's singularity, where previous research suggests all of the object's mass has collapsed to an infinitely dense extent. The fabric of space and time around the singularity has curved to an infinite degree, breaking down all laws of physics as we know them within its grasp.
In a distant future, a war across space and time marches on without end. Amidst the chaos of a failed mission, Operative 5200 finds a letter.

"…I wish we could do more." The confession came stupidly small. Thomas allowed himself to imagine it, sometimes — his back against the grass, Mike's body stretched out beside his, pointing up at a sky full of stars Thomas wasn't even looking at, because he'd rather have been looking at his hand. A movie date in which they both get kicked out of the cinema for being too loud. All the cheesy, corny couple stuff that was never going to be in the cards. Certainly not with a corpse.
Something in the dim shape of him, almost as if it could read his mind, offered a bitter smile in return.
It had been an easy enough arrangement, at first. Thomas had somewhere to sleep, and Mike, in exchange, had somebody to talk to. That was the whole of it, or it was supposed to be. But Thomas knew that the longer this went on, the deeper he was falling for him.
And that terrified him.
"I…" Mike stepped back, and Thomas reached after him anyway, chasing a touch that had never once been there to catch. "You know, there's always one way."
