"I don't know what you mean, doctor. Surely, you've had more liquor than-,"
"Everything about you is fake. You have no idea who you actually are, do you?" Ratio leaned forward with a scathing expression as he spat, “You don’t care that you’re hurting yourself, because there isn't even anybody there to hurt. You’re so far into this farce, this character that you play, nothing matters to you anymore. So fine, Aventurine, keep it up. Don’t worry about getting better for me, or you, or anybody. Just remember the next time you're running around these galas and dinners and parties, and you’re all done up on the outside like the clamorous little peacock you are, with your chains and your rings and all this frivolous fabric,” he said, flicking the fur that was draped around Aventurine's neck, “Inside, you’re the same empty, pathetic man you always have been. You cannot purchase what your soul lacks.”
.
OR
.
Aventurine would rather hide what’s hurting him under poker, parties, and piles of money. Ratio doesn't like it one bit. -

“Math?” And a published academic journal, at that?
“Yes.” Ratio returns the book to his bag, carrying on, but Aventurine’s stuck on the fact that this is apparently what he does in his free time outside of composing music.
“…I thought you were a pianist.”
“I am a pianist.”
“But– math?” Even Aventurine doesn’t spend that much time thinking about math, and he spends twelve hours a day staring at financial models.
“Does it not occur to you that it's possible to have more than one interest?”
Aventurine lives the same week on repeat: eighty hours of his soul-sucking high finance job, then two nights of dancing off the stress to the beat of his favorite anonymous DJ. His move into a luxury apartment building brings him next door to Ratio, an esteemed classical composer with a love for piano. Eager to make a good impression, Aventurine keeps his clubbing habit under wraps — but he’s not the only one hiding secrets under strobe lights.

"The interior of Kaiser's car blocked all external noises, only the sound of their heavy breaths and Kaiser's fingers drumming against the steering wheel resounded in their closed-off world.
'We aren't telling anyone about this,' Isagi murmured, looking blankly overhead, like the car ceiling held all the answers to the universe's mysteries.
'Of fucking course we aren't.' Kaiser readily agreed, hunched over, with the palm of his hand covering his face in embarrassment."
Or, the pains Kaiser and Isagi go through to hide that they're dating.
