Summary
Obviously, truth is stranger than fiction, and there’s always going to be edge cases in the real world, but for our purposes: just how realistic is Armand’s tragic backstory?
Judging by the number of retweets/reblogs on this post and others like it, fannish opinion seems to be “not very”. But honestly? It’s not that far-fetched.
Or: a fannish academic does a deep dive into the most controversial character in Daniel Molloy’s new novel.

Summary
Daniel sees life like a river. Thinks he is caught up in a current that only goes one way, that will eventually sweep him out to sea. It’s easier for him to think so. It keeps him alive to think so.
He doesn’t know that he could stand up and reach the bottom. He doesn’t know he has a choice.
Drugs don’t work, sex doesn’t work, New York hasn’t worked. Somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains, an improbable number of suicides have taken place. Somewhere in a bar in New York, Daniel hears about them. He wants to fill a void. The difference between what is real and what isn’t matters as little to him as the things he’ll find to throw into the darkness. Which, as it turns out, is quite a lot.

Summary
“Where’d you go?” Daniel asks into the quiet. It takes Armand a beat too long to realize the music has stopped. He can’t remember when that happened.
He exhales, watches the light hit the smoke and get tangled up in the haze of the room. The window is open, the night so calm that there’s no wind to stir the air. Traffic is the soundtrack to their days, their nights. As familiar as Daniel’s heartbeat. If Armand turns his head, presses his ear to Daniel’s thigh, he will hear it loud and clear pumping blood through Daniel’s femoral. City sounds echoing through his veins, heart sounds echoing through the streets.
He isn’t sure if Daniel means to ask where Armand’s mind has gone this evening, or where he’s been these past weeks.
Either way, “Too far from you, beloved.”
“Fuck you for that,” Daniel says.

Summary
ISO: Carer to look after my father for 8 weeks this summer.
Dad is 71, early stage Parkinson’s disease, broke his hip 6 weeks ago. No signs of cognitive decline; mostly needs help with household tasks (cooking, light cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping), getting dressed, showering, changing cat litter/general cat care, getting to and from appointments.
Please know what you are getting into; Dad is physically more or less in good health but awful at accepting his limitations, unnecessarily mean, generally uncooperative, and largely nocturnal. Imagine yourself caring for a feral raccoon that is convinced it’s going to write another book, then subtract everything that is cute about raccoons.
$20/hour, roughly 4 hours a day. Must be able to pass a background check and lift 50 lbs. Patience of a saint not required but preferred. -

Summary
These are things Max can still tell about George, like how he’s lost weight because his agency is a fucking prison and Max is no longer there to tell them to fuck off. Or how despite his tailored suits and white teeth, George is a needy loser who cries too easily and likes picking fights with Max despite it.
The world doesn’t know anything about George, not like Max does.
