Katsuki left the keys in the ceramic dish.
In his other hand he carried a paper bag with two slices of lemon pie and a transparent box containing a limited-edition All Might collectible figure, the one Deku was missing.
He had planned to surprise him: his nerd would be hunched over his books, biting his lip, and he would come in, ruffle his hair and put the desserts on the table. Maybe afterward he’d pull him by the hand toward the sofa and they’d watch an old hero movie, and maybe later he could ask Izuku to make good use of the preparation he did in the shower.
Something simple. Something normal.
Then he heard a moan.
Loud. Torn. Unmistakable.
Katsuki’s heart stopped, then raced. The bag slipped from his fingers. The pie hit the floor with a soft thud, the figurine tinkled against the wood.

I will never catch up to you. You’ll always be one step ahead of me, holding your hand out to help me clamber up behind you, Katsuki thinks, gritting his teeth. And isn’t that the problem with him? I’ll never be good enough, strong enough, to help you up when you inevitably fall.
“So stop. Stop chasing when you’ll never fucking measure up.”
Don’t stop pulling me along after you.
