    It’s been two months since the storm, and Childe hasn’t seen Zhongli not even once, not since that fateful meeting with the Signora where the truth is finally unveiled.

    And what a fun little kick to the gut that is, the realization that not only had he been played by all sides, but he's also being tossed aside like trash now that his use had run its course.

    It’s not that Childe doesn’t get it. He’s a Harbinger. He knows first-hand what it means to do his duty, to put the mission first and his personal feelings far, far away, preferably locked up in a box, where it wouldn’t interfere with his job. He knows what it’s like working with vipers, to scheme and plot and lie in wait for the opportune moment to stab his opponent in the back.

    But this time, this time Childe can’t help but feel a little (a lot) gutted.

    Stupid. He’s gotten himself stupidly attached.

    A story about Childe trying to move on after the events of 1.1 Update, but some of his actions have consequences, and those consequences have followed him back to Snezhnaya.

    Post-1.1, Zhongli moves in with Childe in Snezhnaya while he recovers from the backlash of his delusion.

    A classic. Probably one of my foundational fics while getting into ZhongChi fandom. A really good combination of pining and sickfic. Also may have awoken my "what if Il Dottore set his eyes on Childe as an experimentation subject" imagination.

    Alternate ending to 1.1 in which Zhongli confronts Osial as Childe had planned. Childe takes advantage of the moment to steal his gnosis, while wrestling with the revelation that Zhongli is Rex Lapis.

    Childe's shock and anger and desperation are really powerful here.

    “You’re lonely, aren’t you? You miss her, don’t you?”

    A quiet moment hung between them. Childe thought Zhongli might hit him, and that wouldn’t be the worst outcome, brawling in his room. “I did not appreciate her as she deserved while she was alive,” he admitted solemnly.

    “So, pretend I’m her. Just for the night, one night, you can have her back.” Childe curled his fingers into the front of Zhongli’s shirt. He hoped he sounded self-assured, not desperate.

    [post 1.1 update/ chap 1, act 3] childe couldn't have zhongli's gnosis, as he'd given it away. childe couldn't have zhongli's heart, as it belonged to another. but he could have his body, he thought, and that might be something, might be enough to satiate him for a night.

    I'd call this PWP but it's way too emotional. Incredibly soft pining and a Zhongli so gentle it genuinely makes me cry. Every sentence in this fic makes my chest ache (makes my heart beat in its ca-).
