Summary
It was the middle of the night when Leon left. Claire had woken from her light slumber to the sound of his phone beeping on the nightstand. The curtains were still dark, only the yellow street lights and the white moonlight filtering in from the window while pellets of rain battered against the glass.
She didn’t turn around, didn't ask who or what it was. She knew.
Claire, also burdened with the same illness that is spreading through Raccoon City survivors is held up at home while Leon continues to go out into the field. When he doesn't check in, she decides to put his life into her own hands. To find out where he went so she can murder him herself.

Summary
Chloé would be the first to admit that she’s not a nice person. If she were feeling particularly self-reflective, she might even be willing to admit that it makes her less than suitable to be a hero. She was no Rossi, though. She knew Rossi didn’t get along with Dupain-Cheng any more than Chloé herself did, but this latest plan was…unthinkable, and Chloé would never be able to live with herself if she didn’t intervene on her souffre-douleur’s behalf. That still didn’t make her a hero, though, not considering everything else she’d done.
Or at least she didn’t think so.

Before she could really stop herself her arms were around Jack, pulling him into a kiss more passionate that she’d have allowed herself had she been sober. The noise of the rooftop faded into the background as his hands settled on her waist.
But as the fireworks exploded in the sky above, the kiss felt more like an escape than a celebration. She pulled back slightly, scanning his face and looking almost disappointed.
“Happy New Year,” Jack whispered, giving her that charming smile that almost made her forget why she’d ever consider leaving.
Claire forced a smile in return, her hands dropping to his chest. “Happy New Year.”
She tried to soak it in, to ground herself in the moment, but her gaze betrayed her. It drifted again— inevitably, stupidly— to Leon.

Claire had given up the idea of motherhood long ago, least of all with a man who on his best day just managed to numb the pain. Life, however, had an unexpected way of granting wishes.
