Summary
Tossing and turning at night, worrying about a man who doesn’t think of him as anything more than an acquaintance is a downright demeaning way to live, he inherently knows this. It doesn’t stop him from losing sleep over whether or not Mark has already moved onto the next big thing.
It doesn’t hurt any less when he watches Mark eat breakfast across the table the following morning, never losing eye-contact with his phone.
(Mark wants to be friends, and Donghyuck is tired of running in circles.)

Summary
“Jeno,” Donghyuck says, as patiently as he can manage, after Jeno’s spent an hour playing candy crush in Donghyuck’s bed while Donghyuck takes inventory of all of the food in their apartment, too stressed to be let himself bask in the glory of not having to go in to work on a Monday morning. “Can we get back to the issue at hand?”
“What issue?” Jeno asks, face entirely blank, as if there isn’t a blizzard outside so massive that they haven’t been allowed to leave their apartment in two days due to how dangerous it is out there. “The no sex for the foreseeable future issue?”
Or... a record breaking blizzard hits, and Donghyuck and Jeno get stuck inside of their apartment for a week. With two of the horniest people in the world stuck in a shoebox, it's inevitable that they start fucking. What neither of them could have seen coming are the feelings that come with it.

Summary
Mark can barely make eye contact with Donghyuck, who’s face would be hilarious if Mark felt like laughing. “So, let me get this straight,” Donghyuck says slowly, “your mom has been under the impression that we’ve been dating for the last, oh, five or so years; you, given the chance to correct her, did not; and now, you are inviting me to attend your brother’s wedding as your plus one under the guise that we have been dating each other since high school.”
Well, when he puts it that way… “Yeah, that about sums it up.”

Or, Mark and Donghyuck have been best friends forever, so close, in fact, that their parents have thought that they've been dating for years. Mark somehow accidentally on purpose ends up telling his mom that yes of course he's taking Donghyuck to his brother’s wedding. Now, he just has to figure out how act around Donghyuck without making it weird. Oh god, it's not weird, is it?

this fic makes me realise the sheer power of the written word, alongside an increased appreciation for this medium, this website, stories and for writers in general. there was the me before and after i read this fic, sitting with tissues everywhere on my bed and the knowledge that something has changed me and moved me to damn tears that i'm now nursing a migraine. i think i might sit with this feeling for a while, and i think this story's mahae will stick with me for a long, long time.
i will keep this following excerpt because i feel it sums up how beautiful the relationship and the characterization is, but this whole story in general? so goddamn beautiful.
Man or woman, young or old, past or present, Donghyuck or Haechan, Minhyung or Mark—what they are, what they stand for, what it means to gaze into each other’s eyes to know and to accept that everything has changed but nothing has changed, those feelings swelling, and surging, and breaking, those feelings, how no identity, no discrepancy, no distinction can change them.
Unlike the fireworks dying and resurrecting, different from their youth buried in unspeakable pasts, distant from the volatility of people and the fickleness of seasons, they are like stars of the night and stars of the morning, eternal and immortal and untouchable to the passage of time. Stars, that is what they are.

i [choking up] love this fucking fic so much. i think this is the best donghyuck that anyone has ever written and the way i can relate to him pains me. IT PAINS ME, in the best way possible. the descriptions of vulnerability being this sore spot and weakness that donghyuck refuses anyone to witness, and how mark's unfaltering kindness breaks through that great big wall that donghyuck has put up, it's so, so fucking warm and touching. some of the most stellar characterization and a brilliant showcase of "this dude's an asshole, but there’s more to his assholery and he's a well-intentioned asshole so he's really not that big of an asshole ya know", and surprisingly, a great dive into the effects of poverty. i cherish this fic's mahae sm. smooching while crying and rereading.
