Summary
Mike Wheeler has been suffering from depression and panic attacks after his best friend Will Byers moved to New York to go to college. After one especially hard evening when Mike, acting out of pure frustration and being sick of living or actually not really living at all, tried to take his own life is when his mom Karen Wheeler called Will for help because she was out of options and at a loss of how to help her son. Will moves to the Wheeler's house to help Mike, and in the span of the next months they spend together again, Mike begins to explain his feelings and realizations that have led him to the state he is currently in.

Mike is deppressed and sad, Will comes to rescue him, making them talk again after one and a half years of Will being away.

"What are you doing here?" Mike's face dropped as his eyes slid from El, past Max, and over to Will, "And what are you doing with them?"
"Shopping," El said with a blank expression on her face.
Max smirked, "This is their new look, what do you think?"
"You know she's not allowed to be here. And Will, how could you just run off like that, we were worried!" Mike glared straight at Max despite the fact part of what he said was directed at Will.
"What are they, your little pets? El can't leave the cabin, and god forbid Will strays more than three feet from your shadow, despite the fact you were completely ignoring him!" Max snapped right back.

Or... A rewrite of Stranger Things season 3 where Will leaves the mall with El and Max and helps them investigate while growing closer to both girls and becoming more confident in himself. Meanwhile, Mike considers what it might mean for him that he's more upset that his best friend ditched him to hang out with someone else than he is about his girlfriend breaking up with him.

Summary
Will sucked in a breath. “I know… we got attacked by a bunch of demos and bats. I was really overwhelmed, and I kept seeing through the monsters’ eyes—it was awful. My head hurt so bad, and then I got grabbed, I think, and… that’s all I really remember. Until waking up here.”
Mike swallowed hard, looking down at the white tile. He wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing that Will didn’t recall anything after passing out.
“Do you remember Mike saving you?” Max inquired, a faint grin reaching her lips. Mike blinked, turned to Max, then risked a glance at Will.
The boy was smiling faintly at Max, a blank look on his face. “Mike? Who—Who is that?”
OR
When Will gets injured during the final battle and ends up losing some of his memory, Mike struggles to come to terms with the fact that his best friend forgot him. In an attempt to recover Will's lost memories, Mike tries to remind him of their adventures together, and accidentally-on-purpose tells Will that they're secret boyfriends. Once Will's memories return, he decides not to say anything, just to see how far Mike is willing to take the charade.
