Panam poses: “You ever think about how things would be different?” A bit of… whimsy? in her voice. “If you had never taken the Konpeki job.”
She ponders for a moment, even if the answer’s fairly obvious. “Prolly be face-down in a gutter right now.” Throws the sardonic edge from her voice for the next part. “Or we’d… still be lost in NC, both.”
Surprised, at how clear her voice stays for the next part. “Jackie wouldn’ta made it either way. Star burned way too bright.” Clutches at the dogtags around her neck. “Johnny wouldn’ta left me with his smoking habit.” Some levity on that one, but they both know the mark he left runs deeper.
“Aldecaldos woulda sold their soul to Biotechnica or some other corp.” Doesn’t miss the way Panam tenses momentarily.
Some other people worth mentioning too. Judy, Kerry. But she's never talked with Panam much about them.
And of course…
She looks back up to the moon.
“Couldn’t imagine things goin’ any other way.”
OR:
V's beaten her death sentence. So Mi struggles to live with her actions. Panam has a family to lead and a best friend to watch out for. Surely nothing can throw a wrench into the new lives they've built. -

Maybe she just needs a little push.
And Revan gives it. “Don’t think I haven’t seen them,” she mutters, voice smooth as silk, and Bastila hates how she knows exactly what they are without any context.
“Those thoughts that keep you awake in your bunk at night.”
Revan’s hand moves higher, up near her collar. Looks straight into her eyes and blinks long and deliberate.
“The ones your mind runs away with once you finally fall asleep.”
Revan smiles, but it’s almost apologetic.
“I couldn’t miss them if I wanted to.” Shakes her head a little. “Not after you bonded us.”

Summary
So Mi is trying to live after being cured of the Blackwall's corruption, but her nights are plagued by nightmares and her days feel like every minute she spends breathing is nothing but stolen time - as if her life doesn't belong to herself, but someone else. The same someone in her nightmares. The same someone who's probably dead by now - and So Mi knows she killed her as assuredly as if she'd pulled the trigger herself.
It was supposed to be easy.
So Mi had spent so long learning how to stop caring, how to stop letting people in.
She wasn't supposed to fall in love with the woman she was going to condemn to death by her own betrayal.
Then she gets a postcard saying that V is still alive, that Johnny Silverhand is gone - but it only bought V less than half a year by the time So Mi receives the postcard.
But she's alive.
Alive.
And if V is alive...
There's only one place for So Mi to be. Only one thing for her to do.
A week and a half later she buys a one-way ticket out of Tycho Spaceport and back to Earth.
Back to V.
So Mi has an apology to give, a debt to repay, and maybe - maybe - one final confession to make.
