Summary
A new routine had presented itself in Frank’s life. Stay over at Abby's on the weekends, and on weekdays, he’d be in his apartment. It was easier for the kids to adapt, to have him in their grasp for a few days at a time. To the average person, it may seem sad to be divorced and in such close proximity with your ex-wife. To be a ghost in your own home. Yet, he wasn’t sad. When Abby had sat him down and broken the news that she was ready for things to come to a swift end, he agreed. There was no other option for the two of them other than remaining friends. It had been that way for much longer than either of them would like to admit. They had hardship before pain pills infiltrated his consciousness.
However, his new life seems to unbalance itself when Melissa King asks Frank to go out to a bar as a favor. It shifts even further when she pokes and prods at the boundaries of their relationship with almost no warning. And who is he to deny Melissa King?

Becca listened with monk-like solemnity, seeming to consider all of the details, until she delivered her verdict: “Frank didn’t have his ring on, though.”
“What?”
“The last time we saw him. He didn’t have his ring on.”

Summary
“So you know how Abby and I are going through a rough patch.”
Mel cocked her head. “I thought you were getting a divorce.”
“Nah, she won’t actually go through with that. She’s just making me work for it,” Frank said, as if he hadn’t been served with divorce papers in the ED lobby through the plexiglass.
“Ah,” said Mel.
He took a deep breath. “So anyway, I was thinking. You’re single, I’m separated. We should be friends with benefits. Just for six months or so, until Abby takes me back.”

She doesn’t feel like giving him a hard time right now, truly, but she’s hoping if she’s casual, maybe he’ll magically think everything is okay and actually go the fuck home.

She stares at her phone helplessly, then looks back to Robby.

He turns on his heel and starts walking towards the cops.
Her phone dings one more time.
