It’s a one time thing, Phainon thinks as he leaves Mydei’s room that day. It’s a one time thing, surely it is, because that is the only way Mydei would ever allow it. A momentary reprieve, a flaw in judgment, a mistake. One that the Kremnoan prince would never allow to happen ever again.
Or simply, because Phainon doesn’t deserve another, and that the Gods surely won’t be so kind to give him another. He is content with that. He tries to be, even with all the dreams and thoughts that plagues him. Even with all the flashes of images running through his head every time he lays his eyes on Mydei — of hands, his hands, running through his chest, and of lips biting through tender flesh.

The outcome remains the same, with his face tucked against Veritas’ beating chest — a hand holding the back of his head, cradling him gently in fear that he is going to break.

Aventurine clicks his tongue as he continues to stare at the display. After a moment, he decides. “Two slices of the classic chocolate cake please. To go.”
Veritas’ hands work quickly, grabbing two boxes from the side and sliding open the display counter glass door.
“Ah yes, excellent choice to satisfy a sweet craving,” Veritas comments as he scoops up the slices, smiling as the chocolate cake is no longer whole.
“No no, it's not for me. I don't like sweets,” Aventurine says.
In which small cake shop owner, Veritas Ratio, pursues his sudden infatuation for a certain customer.

“My trial will be held soon,” Aventurine says, ignoring the rapid thrumming in his chest. “To determine my punishment for breaking the cornerstone during my mission. It is decided that all the Stonehearts will take a vote to decide whether or not my own position as a Stoneheart will be taken away.”
Veritas’ expression doesn’t change as he takes in Aventurine’s words.
“They will take a vote on your… resignation?”
Aventurine averts his gaze to look at the floor. He doesn’t dare to stare into his partner’s concerned eyes when he utters the next words.
“No, Veritas. My execution.”
