There was nothing peaceful about this place. The smell was getting stronger, or maybe Petey was just noticing it more. His stomach turned. The walls seemed to be breathing, expanding and contracting with each drip of water. The single bulb flickered once, twice, and Petey's breath caught in his throat, terrified it would go out and leave them in complete darkness. Gary moved closer. He wasn't touching Petey but he was close enough that Petey could feel the heat coming off his body, could smell the cigarette smoke and bleach that clung to his clothes.
“Are you scared, Petey?”
“No.”
“Yeah you are. I can see it. Your hands are shaking.” Gary reached out slowly, and Petey flinched but didn't move away. Gary's fingers wrapped around Petey's wrist, right where he'd held it before, and his grip was gentle but firm. His thumb pressed against the inside of Petey's wrist, right over his pulse. Gary smiled, his face red. “Your heart's going really fast.”
OR
Petey finds himself drawn into a friendship that quickly becomes something far more consuming. Gary didn’t think he could ever let Petey go.
