Summary
“Buck!” Eddie was already moving.
Oxygen tank forgotten at Bobby’s feet, turnout coat already halfway off because he needed the range of motion to check on Buck. The world tunneled—sirens, voices, the puff of dust off every bootfall—down to one point: Buck’s face up close, eyes too bright, lashes caked with grit. “Hey. Hey, look at me.”
Buck tried.
He blinked slow, mouth parted, a smear of soot curving up his cheekbone. His lips were almost colorless under the dust.
“Eddie,” he managed, voice frayed into a rasp. “M’good.”
“Yeah? Prove it.”
Eddie’s palm found the back of Buck’s turnout, guided him sideways to the tailboard of the engine. “Sit down.”_____________
Buck's caught right in the middle of a structural collapse and when he stumbles out, well, Eddie has to make sure he's actually okay.

Summary
Chimney blinks. “Eddie,” he says. “Who’s Eddie?”
At that Maddie barks out a laugh and claps a hand over her mouth, which is adorable. “That’s funny,” she says, but then her eyes settle on Chimney’s puzzled face. Her eyebrows shoot up. “Wait, you don’t- you really don’t know?”
“Uh. No.”
“What do you- oh my god, he usually can’t shut up about him. I guess it really is worse than I thought this time.”
“This ti- Maddie, please, take some pity on me. What is going on? Who is Eddie?”
Maddie’s face does something complicated then. There’s a flash of sadness, then she smiles, but it seems a little defeated. She scratches her chin and reaches for her wine, before she says, “my brother in law.”or: Chimney and Hen have the new guy figured out. Or so they thought.

Summary
“This is a private discussion!”
“This,” he says, pointing a finger up to the ceiling, “is an elevator.”
“Okay. Buck.” Maddie takes a deep, steadying breath in through her nose. “I was going to tell you that Chim and I are–”
The elevator shakes.
When Maddie asks Buck to a fancy rooftop restaurant for no good reason, he’s more than happy to oblige his big sister. As long as she is footing the bill.
They don’t make it to the roof.

“We have to prioriti—”
“Well, what if I want to prioritize you?!” she fires back.
“You have a family, Maddie!”
“Yeah, and you’re part of it!”
“I mean, you’ve got someone! You’ve got a kid!”
“And you don’t?”
Buck falters, blinking and blinking. Ha, thinks Maddie, gotcha.___

Summary
“Listen,” Buck began. “I know I asked for this, but I’m starting to think this was a bad idea.”
Athena didn’t break her stride. “Do you want your engagement ring back or not?”
He winced. “You know I do. But Eddie and Bobby are going to be pissed when they find out about this.”
“Who’s going to tell them?” she challenged smoothly. “We’ll be in and out. It’ll be quick and quiet.”
“This is a very, very bad idea,” he muttered, unease clawing at him as they moved deeper into the building.
“Yes, you’ve mentioned,” Athena retorted dryly. She turned towards him, very much looking like she was weighing the pros and cons of duct-taping his mouth shut.
Then—BANG.
A gunshot shattered the air.
“You just had to jinx us,” she hissed.
“Technically, you said the q-word,” he muttered defensively.
