So in canon Dimitri spent some time living in the slums of Fhirdiad during the five year timeskip. The idea is that in order to pay for basic needs (like food or medical aid) Dimitri resorts to sex work to cover the costs.

Summary
With the disappearance of the Ashen Demon, Fodlan has fallen into the clutches and tyranny of the Church of Seiros. Archbishop Rhea is attempting to eradicate all those who are deemed nonbelievers of the Goddess's will. Upon taking control of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, there are those who are attempting to push back against the theocratic control within the Empire and select territories of the Alliance.
While attempting to gather numbers to take offense against Rhea's armies, Edelgard sends Hubert and Ferdinand on an undercover mission in the Alliance. The two men are to run a tea shop by day, and use the shop as a front for secret dealings and meetings with Alliance allies. In order to keep word from spreading towards the Legion of Seiros, Ferdinand and Hubert must stay disguised while attempting to gather support in the war effort. Perhaps even growing closer in the process.
