Summary
This is bullshit. Daniel has spent two years persistently dialling Armand’s mental phone number in the vampire psychic network, and after two years of getting the equivalent of ‘the number you’re trying to reach no longer exists,’ he bumps into his maker in a dinky little repair shop. In Canada. Smelling like—this is where Daniel must be going crazy, because Armand smelled like a human in there. An unremarkable, blood-filled, regular human, with notes of stale sweat and artificial lemon detergent.
Which part of the vampiric telenovela that makes up Daniel’s life is this again?
(OR, the fic where Armand shows up again as a human, but Daniel's still a vampire, and then they do role-reversal Devil's Minion nonsense)

Summary
“You doing all right?” Daniel asks him.
Armand blinks. “No,” he says.
“Most honest you've been with me since I got here,” Daniel says. And then, because it seems like the thing to do, “I can clear out, if you need the place to yourself.”
“Whatever you prefer.” Armand's lips look chapped. Dehydration? He ate the kid with the sunglasses, but the smear he left took a lot of bleach to scrub away. Maybe Daniel should - “You won't be harmed,” Armand says, “regardless of your decision.”
“You got served divorce papers so hard it left a crater,” Daniel says, “and you're still poking around in people's heads.”

Summary
Daniel visits Armand on the Night Island after he’s turned in Dubai.
"What’s next? A yacht? A summer house? An island? You’re ridiculous."
“Do you want them?” Armand asks him seriously. “A yacht, a summer house, an island?”
"What do you mean I—no, I don’t. Jesus, Armand.” Sometimes he thinks he could really do without a boyfriend who wasn’t into grand romantic gestures, especially because Armand has such a propensity for inventing new ways to make Daniel feel like a class traitor. He kisses his sweaty head, places a palm on his chest and taps it with a finger. “I don’t need an island. You’re it, baby.”

Summary
Daniel is half-drunk and, as he is most of the time, unpleasant. These are important facts. The other important facts are as follows: Daniel is three years away from sixty. Daniel’s second marriage officially ended seven months ago, though she moved out two years ago. The divorce took a long time because he was dragging his feet on signing the papers. He doesn’t know why he dragged his feet for a whole fourteen-and-a-half months. He told his wife and her lawyers and his lawyers it was because he was too bogged down in preparing this memoir to give a shit about some paperwork. He is so fucking tired of getting divorced. He’s decided, officially, that he’s not ever going to get married again, even if it means he doesn’t get laid for the rest of his life. If needs must, he’ll buy a fleshlight.
_____New York, 2010. Daniel celebrates the release of his memoir with an old friend.
