The question felt like a blade through his heart. He immediately looked at his wife who had a knowing look on their face. Ren crossed his arms nervously, ears alert. “How did you know?”
“I did my homework,” Cleo said, sighing. “A man who spent his entire youth serving his king? Both were rarely seen apart? Not to mention that the King was known to refuse all marriage proposals. I don’t think you were being subtle at all.”
Ren averted his gaze, looking at the floor beneath him. So she knew this whole time?

Summary
It was another long night for Ren. He's on his bed, unable to go to sleep. The time on his phone shows that it's almost three, a guy my age should really be asleep by now, he thought to himself.
It's nothing new, really. This isn't the first time he's had trouble falling asleep; usually, it's his inability to stop overthinking things, varying from his job to his love life (or the lack of it). What usually helps is listening to something other than his own mind. So, as per usual, Ren decided to open his Twitch app on his phone.

Martyn had been serving his king since the days when Ren was just a young prince. Their ages weren't that far apart, with Ren being two years his senior. He watched as Ren ascended the throne, watched as the years flew by, and witnessed how the premature grey streaks in his beautiful brown hair began to show. He had always been so pretty, so full of life. Everywhere he went, he would light up the room with his wide unapologetic smile. Even right now, with his thick maroon robe subtly billowing in the wind, his king looked like a luxury that he could never dream of touching.
To Martyn, standing by his side is a privilege he dared not trade for the world.
