    Simon Riley is dying.
    He’s not accepted it yet, but it’s a matter of time; every pulse of blood oozing through his fingers is so many precious seconds draining out of his future. It feels almost comical, after all that he’s been through and done at the hands of rich men and cowards, marched hell into lands of people who never knew he existed until he brought ruin and chaos upon their peace. His life authored by depraved gods with only the goal of pain in mind. Simon doesn’t often think much on the deep unfairness of his life, doesn’t have the time between waking up and going back to sleep. The deep gash in his gut doesn’t care much for his ideals of inequity though, indeed it would seem whatever gods still looked over his life had decided that spiting the grave once was all he was allotted.

    Or: A dying soldier pledges his life to a fae completely by accident and he ends up with more than he bargained his soul for.
