From what words he could pull from the Witcher’s lips, he’d expected cold stone, high walls, scattered straw, and terse company. Not...a well kept keep, warm from large fires, with abundant good food and rich wines.
There had been a strange tension, an undercurrent between all of them when Jaskier had trailed in behind Geralt. Geralt’s shoulders were tense, his jaw tight, and he met every molten gaze with his head high. He looked ready for a fight at any moment.
Which was strange, because Geralt’s fellow Witchers were…

It began, as these things often do, with a look.
Jaskier was better mannered than to leer openly at young women. Especially a young noblewoman of high rank, who may as well have been the natural daughter of his truest friend.
But when he took her hands in his, kissed her cheek softly in greeting, and said “Cirilla, it has truly been too long. You’ve bloomed into a woman while we've been apart these long years.” There was the faintest glimmer of appreciative warmth in his eyes.
"You're the same. Still as handsome as a storybook prince, with just a drop of the charm to go with it." Ciri returned and reflected the warmth. She was old enough now to notice the contrast between the boyish openness of Jaskier’s face with the promise of dark hair and strong muscles underneath his fine clothing.
Geralt saw it.
He saw it all.

The thing is, the sex thing has been there between them for years. Not the having it, but the unspoken 'maybe we should.' Not that they ever say it out loud. They say it with their eyes every time there's another near-death experience and Scott is patching up another of Stiles’ wounds. When Scott’s hands are hot on Stiles’ bare skin that's okay, because it's just a friend taking care of a friend. It's acceptable, somehow, that sort of touching. Another careful step, letting his eyes adjust to the gloom, not yet pulling for his infrared goggles. A few more steps, and he hears a gurgling noise that sounds terrifyingly like the rattle of someone's last breath. Chris rounds a corner, desperately hoping to not see Isaac's corpse.
