It’s not his job, but it seems Dumbledore is trying to make it Harry’s job.
And well, after living with the Dursleys so long only to end up under the thumb of a brand new manipulator, can Harry really be blamed for running away?
If no one else sees value in Harry, then it’s Harry’s job to find value in himself. That is a job he can live with.

"Why would it be hidden? You didn't hide any of the other tattoos?" Harry asked. "Unless because it moves you'd need to hide it from muggles?"
Sirius very clearly didn't understand the question. "It would be hidden because it's my Mark?" He said, as if that should mean something to Harry.
"My Mark? My Morgana's Mark, the Mark taken especially to show other people how much of a horn-dog I am, my heart literally on my sleeve? That mark?"
"Is that some weird wizard thing again? I've never heard of that before."
Sirius' eyes were starting to bug out a little, his face turning a worrying shade of white that rivalled Petunia's prized linens.
"But. But if you don't know- don't have one... How. How did you get into the Gryffindorgy last year?"
"The What." That sounded like something that would give Professor McGonagall a heart attack.
Timeline alterations starting just before 4th year. This started as an excuse for porn, but then it grew plot - I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I do thinking about it. New to publishing on AO3, let me know if anything should be tagged.
