    fantastic, original take on the “loki was mind controlled by thanos into initiating the NY invasion” trope. one of my favorite ever portrayals of the 2012 era avengers - each of them is so distinct and human, and they fit together so well as a found family. the care for each other, and loki by extension, is some of the best written relationships i’ve read in avengers fic. beautifully written, super creative and compelling action sequences. loved this fic, bookmarking to rec to others

    ”Hiya, Endeavor!” The new number 2 hero, Hawks, greeted, an easy going smile on his face as he seemingly appeared out of nowhere. “What’s crack-a-lacking?”

    Touya took notice of the way his father’s eye twitched with no small amount of delight. Oh? Was that annoyance he saw flickering in those cold, dead eyes?

    “Why are you here, Hawks?” Endeavor asked gruffly, a scowl hardening his face.

    “I can’t just stop by to say hello? Catch up? See how you’re doing?” Hawks splayed a hand across his chest, innocently looking up at him underneath his heavy lashes. Then, he turned to Touya, scanning him from head to toe. “Now, you… I don’t think I’ve seen around here before…” Hawks cocked his head to the side. “Are you new?”

    A growl slipped from Endeavor. “Hawks, if it’s not hero business—“

    Touya stepped smoothly in front of his father, holding out a hand. “The name’s Touya.” He just had to introduce himself after seeing the way Hawks' mere presence made Endeavor’s blood boil.

    The hero shook it, delight glimmering behind his visor. “Hawks.”

    “Can I ask you something?” Mic asks, slowly looking away from the sky as the cloud passes and the sun’s rays shine on them again.

    “Of course.”

    “Why do you want to be a hero, Kaminari?” Mic’s voice is gentle, as if he’s afraid to break whatever somber mood has settled over them as well.

    Kaminari looks down, into the sea of people walking so far below them. Kaminari can’t hear them, can barely make out their faces, even. But, he can imagine what they’re doing. Adults walking to and from work, or the store running errands. Some laden with bags, others with briefcases. Teenagers and kids walking home from school, stopping at corner stores and arcades to hang out longer with their friends. Families walking downtown, children in the middle, clutching their parent’s hands and laughing in joy. Everyone living their lives, in their own bubbles, going about their day. Kaminari can feel himself smiling as he observes them.

    Or, Kaminari interns with Present Mic. It goes better than Kaminari could have ever hoped.
