hate is an understatement; aiah is confident she can take an unsharpened pencil and gut stacey like a fish if given the chance. stacey constantly thinks of setting the older girl on fire with her own eyeliner. this isn’t like any other teenage rivalry, it’s serious. violent. a never before seen level of teenage pettiness to the point of skinned knees, bruised elbows, and armcasts. they don’t know where it came from, they don’t care enough to stop.
but they have one rule they follow above all.
no face.
kick, slap, push, scratch—all’s fair in this little school game.
but they never do it above the neck.
(so stacey kisses her on the collarbone instead and aiah lets her.)

“sorry about this but, um, i just wanted to ask for a favor.”
it’s then that momo sees it. or feels it, rather.
there’s something in the air around her, momo thinks, as dahyun stands in front of the door to their house. it’s thick, viscous, and looming, making momo still in her tracks. it chokes the air around them, her breath hitching unconsciously.
it’s wrong. all of it is wrong.
in spite of that, dahyun has the biggest smile on her face, her bags behind her as she leans in close.
”can i stay over for a few weeks?”
and in spite of everything, of their history, momo can’t think of any other answer.
“of course, dahyun-ah.”
(or, dahyun's running out of time.)
