Summary
Next to it, Oscar pins a karting magazine. Careful not to rip the edges, because the plastic-y paper’s already aged, old, frail. The colours are faded, the spine of the magazine cracked. It still smells like the garage they’d found it in.
Oscar used to look at it every night. Right before he went to sleep, he’d trace the outline of the helmet with his finger until he fell asleep, like maybe, if he touched it enough, Oscar would learn to drive like the kid on the cover, too.
The kid, who, all bright smile and tan skin, was reduced to the big bold headline: Wonderkid Norris disappears after early rise.
OR
Oscar comes to England for his senior karting career, finds out his childhood hero isn't the guy he thought he would be.

Summary
In Las Vegas, the last thing that George Russell expects to celebrate his victory with is making out with Max Verstappen in the toilet cubicle in some fancy, upscale bathroom. Not only is he prim and proper and straight, but it is Max Verstappen, who is brash and angry and reckless. It still hurts when Max pushes him away and refuses to talk to him afterwards but it’s whatever - not at all like George can’t stop thinking about his stupid face and stupid hands and stupid laugh.
And then Qatar.
Qatar happens and all of George’s messy, unnameable emotions are spilled out across the front page of every media outlet and social media profile. His colleagues are making jokes and getting involved, his team principal is stepping up to the mat for him, and all George is really sure about is that he would like to either punch Max Verstappen or kiss Max Verstappen again.
As the 2024 season draws to a close and the off-season begins, George navigates what identity means to him, his approaches to life and racing, and whether or not there is a place in his life that might suit Max Verstappen, if he is brave enough to choose him.

“You’re not mated, are you, Oscar?” Zak asks him, peering at his neck and trying to see past the collar of his hoodie as though he has x-ray vision.
“No,” Oscar replies, hunching his shoulders a little. He doesn’t like Zak’s stare.
“Hm,” is all Zak says before he turns to Mark. “So, you guys need to make a decision. Get him mated, or I’m afraid we’ll have to find someone else.”
