“It’s not a choice I get to ma-”
“The hell it isn’t Jisung. I’m your choice. Right here. Me and my sword and the boat I have upriver. Choose me.”
Jisung looked at him again. Part startled woodland creature, part whipped dog. What light that still shone in his eyes diminished. He shook his head and Minho felt the tiny string still holding the tapestry of his heart together snap. The strands unspooled inside until nothing remained but one stubborn red thread, tied not to himself but another.
“Can you remember who you were?” Minho asked, the pain in his voice apparent, his eyes searching for some glimmer of the starry-eyed boy he’d known.
Or Jisung was kidnapped by a king in a faraway kingdom, Minho has fought his way back to him, Jisung just needs to remember the promise they made in their youth.

From closer, it’s clear that Minho is about his age. He’s handsome— very much so— in an untouchable sort of way. Straight nose, sharp eyes, a defined cupid’s bow. He looks sculpted rather than born. Jisung might shrink under the weight of his presence if the situation were different.
Knowing that Minho is dying ruins the illusion of perfection.
Jisung answers an ad online reading: "I'm going to die, but there's a lot of things I haven't done yet that I don't want to do alone."
