Summary
"Max just came out to their parents," Chris explains. "And it didn't go well."
Eddie takes a moment to process that sentence. Max and Chris have been close friends for a few years now, 'they' is not the pronoun he's used to hearing accompany Max's name.
"Right, okay." Eddie pushes himself up from the couch and moves to pick up his car keys. "Of course they can come over. Where are we picking them up?"

"Yeah," Eddie huffs softly. "Me too."

Summary
Buck exhales, holding a sob back. His hand shakes over his mouth, and Eddie stays silent. “I used to be homeless, you know.” He sniffs, shaking his head. He can feel Eddie’s gaze on him. “But, Eddie—I can’t be that brave again. I don’t wanna stay at another homeless shelter and get kicked out in the afternoons and go to church because I have no where else to stay and at least they have heating.
“I just—I need this. I need to stay. Here. I need to stay here, and you need to say that’s okay, because I’m not strong enough to handle that again. ‘M not.”

Summary
The first time Buck tries to sleep in the main bedroom of 4995 South Bedford Street, he can’t.
He turns off the lights, double-checks that the oven is off even though he didn’t turn it on, and triple-checks he locked the front and back doors. The house falls silent except for the creak of floorboards underneath his feet. Buck has never thought about the floor so much as he does in that moment; the old, loved wooden slats - sanded and refinished over the decades. An oak tree somewhere in the country cut down so a family would have a place to stand, to sit, to sleep. To live.
This house is not his. It’s not his home. Not yet. But he hopes it could be.
or: Eddie leaves for El Paso to get Christopher back and Buck doesn’t even try to be normal about it
