    He did die nine years ago, after all, Michael thinks and this Michael De Santa that he has become is a zombie, a stumbling reanimation going through the motions of an upper middle-class bozo with too much money and time on his hands. A pastiche of the cushy lifestyle every family man thinks he wants for himself. Kids which he loves dearly, but who are useless and just as jaded as he is. A wife that he's fond of, and who he ultimately still has a begrudging love for, but a marriage that is too far gone and unsalvageable. A picket fence, picture-perfect life that is so conventional and so grossly textbook, that he has basically been comatose for the last few years of his life. He's always thrived on danger, on the wrong, on the unconventional, on the immoral. He got a part of that back when Franklin broke into Jimmy's car, but it wasn't until Trevor showed up that he was truly resurrected - Michael Townley, back from the dead and experiencing the fucked up, depraved, disgustingly illegal life he had run away from. He's alive again.
