The cafe autodoor gives a creaky shudder, slides open with a whispery screech. And it smells…
Kraglin pauses just inside, inhales long. It smells like melted chocolate, spices, the bitter whiff of caff beans underneath. It warm too, so warm against his cold skin and he slumps, lets himself soak it in.“Hey, dirtboy. Long trip?”
Or, the first part in the space punk coffee shop AU no one asked for

Summary
Her old cybernetic hand has been replaced by one slightly more sleek, and all her metallic bits have been clouded over black with fuel smoke. She’s scowling down at Mantis, hands clenched tight, and she’s absolutely beautiful.
“I…” Mantis wrings her hands, “I am glad you are here.”
Nebula hutches, says gruffly, “I am only staying until my ship is fixed.”
“I know,” and Mantis does. Nebula wouldn’t be herself, if she simply gave up her quest. “I will be glad for the time you are here with me.”In which Mantis and Nebula start to build a new fragile thing, life is not always like in the books and Peter is an enthusiastically advice-giving big brother.

Summary
Fuck. That car absolutely had just slammed into that guy. Sure Distracted Douchebag was probably only going five miles an hour. But in that kind of a goddamn penis-replacement of a monster truck, smashing into the front of that at any speed…
Stiles drops his taco on his plate, sprints for the street. Thank god it isn’t rush hour, at least. Someone's already trying to hold up traffic, blocking the guy splayed face first on the ground. Hopefully someone at the taco truck calls 911, because he may be an EMT but there’s only so much he’s gonna be able to do for someone for someone who’s been hit by a goddamn truck.
Or Stiles has seen a lot of shit as an EMT, but he's never seen a guy who gets himself nearly killed and then walks away without a scratch quite as often as Derek Hale

It’s coming. Whether he sleeps or stares dry-eyed out the viewscreen, it’s coming.
So Krugarr waits, curled around himself in the dark of the engine room, for the psychic echo of Yondu’s dying scream. The stippled wall rubs his scales wrong whenever he shifts, but the warmth soaking through is a small comfort.
Except, it never does.
If Yondu had died, Krugarr would have heard it, so when Martinex’s message pings his wristcomm he already knows.Or five times Krugarr encountered death and one he didn't

Summary
Yondu’s on a street corner outside a bar, the slow, blinking wash of the neon light flushing his skin a sickly red. On, and off. On, and off. There isn’t any stars to see in the sky, the smog above him coating them thick and swirling, but it’s okay. The street lamps pool light gaudily around anyone close enough to want the light. It’s not silent. it’s never silent in the city, with the rasp of horns and crashing hum of voices rising and falling in rage and wanting and hate. He wouldn’t know what to do with it if it was.
“You looking?”
Yondu lets his head twist, eyes blinking slow and piercing towards that hot gravel growl of the voice. At first he looks Xandarian - but he’s not. No Xandarian Yondu’s ever met has arcs of fire coming out of their shoulders, or eyes that gleam white and unholy when they catch the light just so. He’s wrapped in cobalt leather, wild flare of steel grey hair flopping onto his forehead, edges silhouetted sharp as a knife by the street lamps behind him.

“Those numbers are off, there.”
Yondu clamps down hard on the instinctive startle, sucks in a breath and turns to scowl up at the rookie.
There’s something unnerving, about him. The way his eyes track Yondu, eyes sharp and almost unnaturally blank. There’s nothing of a rookie’s bug-eyed awe for the captain’s rank in his body when he turns to face Yondu, only a watchful looseness.
In which new captain Yondu wonders why the new rookie keeps looking at him like he wants to eat him alive

“Now listen here, boy,” Yondu flicked Peter’s ear sharply, guffawing when he jerked awake with a panicked flail. After pausing to make sure he had Peter’s begrudging attention, Yondu settled back grandiosely into his plethora of pillows and drawled, “It’s come to my attention–“
In which Yondu tries to dad and nothing hurts

This is what Martinex dreams:
Yondu presses hot and wet and shivering against his chest, mouthing pleas to an unseen master. His hands wring tight in scratch-wool cloth dark as black holes, and this time Martinex won’t let go.
When he stumbles to his feet, Marty stands.
When he staggers out the door, Marty follows.

Summary
A wounded snarl breaks the cheerful hum of the market air, and Yondu snaps around. What in solar flares…? Now he’s listening, there’s jeering too. Taunts, and the sound of flesh against flesh. Yondu turns from where he’s boredly examining some dull tchotchke that’s definitely not cute enough to get added to his collection, and starts casually sauntering towards the hullabaloo.

He’s doing it again. That dirty blue bastard of a smirking Ravager is doing it again. Kraglin is absolutely and completely done with him. If that jackass dares to try and pull shit one more time Kraglin’s gonna… well, he doesn’t know what he’s gonna do, but it’s definitely gonna involve knives and it’s definitely not gonna be pretty.

“Someone getting a little soft on me?” Yondu grins, face splintering into unforgiving edges and mocking. “'S just a retrieval, it’ll be easier ’n shooting orloni in a barrel.”
Kraglin stares down, at Yondu sprawled and swiveling idly in the briefing room chair. He can’t seriously be thinking of taking this. Summary
His head pounds in rhythm with the low pulse of the music, but Stakar can’t turn it off. The same song, over and over, aching along on repeat. The melody twists in familiar lines, twining with the brassy twang of the bass. The muscles in the small of his back spasm and he shifts, leans forward on the edge of the bed and rests his head in his hands.
Or, Aleta visits Stakar on the anniversary of Yondu's arrival, post-exile, otherwise known as a giant heap of unmitigated angst.

It’s rude to stare. Stakar knows that, and he still can’t stop.
“Hey, eyes up here,” Aleta snaps her fingers in his face irritably, “what, this the first time you been with a woman that’s got something besides an innie.”
She says it like she’s expecting the answer to be no, but when Stakar gulps and doesn’t answer, one eyebrow pulls up in disbelief.
“Right,” Aleta starts to pull away and Stakar scrambles says “wait, no please, i just wasn’t expecting it i haven’t…” Stakar stops, turns to stares at the uneven dents in the metal wall of his cabin.Or, Aleta and Stakar and ovipositors

Summary
Kraglin turns his head stiffly, to see Martinex looking back at him in amusement. He doesn’t look at all like he’s just woken up, and Kraglin wrinkles his nose. Suppose that’s one of the upsides to being all shiny and crystal like that, never looking sleep deprived. Marty reaches a hand, strokes along Kraglin’s prickly scruff of a beard, and it’s all coming back. The feel of Martinex hooking him close, Yondu fucking his tongue into Kraglin’s mouth, the dazed revelation that they meant it, the invitation to their bed.

Summary
“Hey buddy, everything okay?”
The voice is high, and far too inquisitive for a space port bartender. Charlie upends his glass, lets the last dribble of brew burn down his throat. There’s some tinny cover of a Andoran pop song ten years past it prime whining out of the sound system. It’s playing over and over on repeat, scraping and scuttling across his skin. His blaster presses heavy between his shoulder blades, and he shifts.
He’s only three drinks into what’s clearly a ten drinks kind of evening. Time to start fixing that.
After the exile, Charlie-27 and Martinex don't cope

Summary
When something shifts on the ground, Stakar startles, brings his weapon up, eyes scanning for the source of the possible movement. And then he finds it and his grip tightens unconsciously. It's a tiny, blue crumpled body, out of proportion set against the harsh, suffocating scent of blood, the rough, scarred leather, the other bodies laying around it, and the wrongness of it makes his bones jar.
And breathing. Unlike everything else around it, this one's chest is rising, falling, scrawny and alive - if you could call it that.
In which Stakar finds Yondu as a child battle slave.

It’s small. So small. It’s looking at him with big black eyes, head tilted in hopeful plea. Kraglin tilts his head to match.
“Why…” he blinks as the tiny mop of fur splits into two, “Why’re you s’small?”
There’s no way Kraglin can just leave it here alone. It’ll probably get stepped on, or squished by a passing vehicle, or eaten by something bigger, which is practically everything because it’s so tiny.In which a rather drunk Kraglin finds a sad fluff who clearly needs his help
