Mogło się wydawać, jakoby wszystko między nami działo się stanowczo zbyt drastycznie. Zupełnie jakoby każdy krok powinien zostać postawiony znacznie później, jakoby nasze serca zaczynały bić szybciej zupełnie bezpodstawnie - bez głębszej przyczyny.
Dlaczego zatem pragnęłam jej od naszego pierwszego spotkania? Jak wielka siła musiała wtedy między nami zadziałać, żeby nawet dym papierosowy wydostający się z jej cienkich ust wzbudzał we mnie nieporównywalne do niczego innego pożądanie, płynące agresywnie w moich żyłach?
Jaka mogła być szansa na to, że wśród wstawiających ją w okrutnym świetle pogłosek, pojawiłby się promyczek nadziei, wiara w to, że Ellie Parker tak naprawdę nie jest tą, na którą się ją kreuje?
I jak nieprawdopodobne mogło się okazać przeczucie, że to ona będzie tą, która uleczy wszystkie moje rany, których nigdy nie ośmieliłaby się zadać?

What chance could there be that amidst the rumors that cast her in a cruel light, there would appear a glimmer of hope, a belief that Ellie Parker is not really who she is made out to be?
And how unlikely could it have been to have had this feeling that she would be the one to heal all my wounds that she would never even dare to inflict?
