Neuvillette sighs, reaching for his quill pen if just for something to do. “Apologies. I am… nearing my rut.”
Wriothesley blinks. “And you’re still working?”
“It hasn’t started yet.”
“Do you want me to stay with you when it does?”
Neuvillette pauses. “… I would not like to do anything sexual.”
“No, I know. Ruts aren’t just sex—if you think it’ll help I’d be more than happy to give you some company.”
Neuvillette hesitates.
“I want to,” Wriothesley finally says. “Bond instincts aside, it was nice to have you during my heat. I’d like to return the favor.”
Neuvillette’s ruts are nothing more than a cycle of stress, frustration and anxiety.
It isn’t half as overwhelming with Wriothesley by his side.

That makes sense.
"So...?" Wriothesley raises his brow even higher, "You're saying...?"
"Start practicing!" The melusine claps, looking positively giddy, "Try to relax, and make yourself comfortable. You'll be able to purr in no time, Your Grace!"

Summary
The Iudex died ten years ago, when Wriothesley had only just been released for a couple of months after having just narrowly escaped before the prison revolt gained its full momentum. That's what he said, anyway. Eventually, the Fortress of Meropide became its own autonomous state, closing its gate to the influences and demands of Fontaine. The court floundered without their Chief Justice, and Lady Furina's incompetence only added to the rising tension within the Nation of Hydro.
From where Wriothesley stood, as a bug in the face of a God and her grand machinations, he found himself becoming a lawyer to do... something, at least. A loosing battle was still a battle to be fought.
Who would have thought that Neuvillette would show up again, after all of these years?
[ Fontaine MSQ left me severely disappointed. Here's how things would've rolled out if I was the writer. Fuck Mihoyo. ]
