Summary
"The guy who sent me said I was supposed to be looking for a... warrior, or something," Ajay says lamely, and he's startled by Jason's manic laugh, a bark of sound that's too sharp in the muffled still of the cabin.
"Let's just avoid that word, huh?"

Summary
It is reflex. Consumption, for a being of this origin, even a fragment, is nature alone. To make another his, to own them, to bend them, to crack them open on the seams, to fester the wound with a thousand squirming limbs and peel it ever wider. He clings to Arthur and pets over his mind, feels it quiver beneath his touch.
“It’s okay,” he breathes again. “You’re not hurting me. Just — let go, John. Take what you need, I’ll give it.”

Summary
It’ll be okay. You’re safe.
A lie, perhaps the biggest one John had ever uttered in his meager four months of existence. He certainly did not feel safe, not enclosed in a seemingly-endless labyrinth that could twist and reshape itself at will, not in England where he could see barren grasslands all the way to the horizon, not in this fucking universe that could have been handpicked by a bored god or—worse yet—chosen at random just for shits and giggles.
No. John did not feel safe one bit.
Even so, Arthur breathed.
I’ll take care of you.
And breathed.
It’ll be okay.
And breathed.
It’ll be fine.
And faded.

Miraculously, the witch is vanquished and her talisman tugs Arthur violently back to mortality, though it is obvious he won't be leaving the labyrinth any time soon. John does the only thing he can and watches over him.Bookmarked by rebellare

Summary
"His arms still felt tense without the connection to Arthur. Anxiety – was that what that was? – was brewing in his gut at the distance between them, despite it only being two feet at most. At least in Arthur’s eyes he had a better position to warn him should something approach; now there were too many distractions, and the angle was off. He had an almost overpowering urge to grab onto Arthur again, hold him tight against his body and never let him go ever again. That way they could be close again, close enough to protect against any threats, close enough to feel… whole."
---
John and Arthur finally separate and temporarily stay in New York to get used to this new arrangement. It doesn't go as well as they might have hoped.

Summary
Hastur once warned Arthur that he wasn't ready for the theater. Well, the time has come, but even Hastur isn't ready for how much the splendors of Carcosa will change them both, and what it sets into motion.
