“Just saying, if you’re taking another hit, you should share it with me,” Mike says, and Will slowly tilts his head, drinking in every word. “It just makes sense. Like, mathematically.”
Will’s reddened eyes narrow, bewildered. “Mathematically?”
“If there’s two hits left, we’d each only get one,” Mike explains. “But if we shotgunned, we’d both get two.” God, this is the best idea he’s had in ages. He should’ve stolen Will’s weed, like, months ago. “That’s like, bang for your buck. This is simple math, Will Byers. Keep up.”
In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.
So, they get a little high. Mike is very normal about all of it.

Will shoves his face back into his hands. “I’m going to fail.”
Max rolls her eyes. “You’re not going to fail, you’re going to paint Mike.”
Will lifts his head up from his hands, eyes wide, and shakes his head. “You don’t understand.” He pleads with his awful, awful friends, voice low. “He’s been, he’s using my-he came out of my bathroom in just a towel last night.”

“Don’t,” Will croaks as he realizes too late what this is about to be. “Mike, I’m fine. Go heal Lucas or El—”
It’s too late. Mike grabs Will’s wrist and heat floods Will’s body. In the absence of his own magic, the sensation of someone else’s across his skin is a shock, but the fact that it’s Mike doesn’t exactly help matters. Everyone’s magic feels different. Jonathan’s Bless is a splash of water on the back of the neck. Robin’s Fly has the zing of biting into a lemon. Dustin’s Bardics are the twinge of laughing so hard your stomach hurts.
But Mike’s Lay On Hands just feels warm. Like the sun just before it sets, casting the world in golden light; like the glow of torchlight, or a campfire, heat without danger.

Summary
Mike has kissed exactly one girl since El: Gracie Jenkins, at a party Stacey Albright threw a few weeks ago, before everyone went off to college. He hadn’t liked it, but he’d assumed that was more or less to be expected, that moving on from El would be easier said than done. He was making peace with the possibility that he might never move on, really—that any future romance was just doomed from the start.
Eric kisses him and, immediately, he likes it.
It takes one week of college for Mike to drunkenly make out with a boy at a party, and even less time for him to connect the rest of the dots.
