Summary
Sakusa was late to notice that Ushijima Wakatoshi was crying.
His mind went suddenly blank, and he felt utterly dumb. Instinct shoved past thought, and his body moved of its own accord. He reached out, hands almost clumsy, and brushed the tears from Ushijima’s cheeks with tentative care. Having him collapsed, heavy and unresponsive in his arms hadn’t compared to this. It hollowed Sakusa out in a way nothing else could.
Or, in which Ushijima Wakatoshi gets injured in a practice game, and Sakusa Kiyoomi takes charge of the situation.

Summary
Between the end of summer and the start of fall term, Sakusa visits California to spend time with Komori—and ends up reconnecting with Ushijima Wakatoshi, who’s home for the break. What starts with a campus tour and takeout turns into something quieter and more deliberate: a shared rhythm neither of them names, but neither wants to leave behind. Over dust-soft fields, vending machine sodas, and the hush of coastal roads, they circle something that’s maybe been there for years.
(Or, a handful of weeks of summer, in Irvine, California.)

“How’s Poland?”
It’s a first-week-in-a-new-country type of question. Wakatoshi has been in Poland for four months, and this is the first time they’re speaking.
