Summary
‘...until Mr Mitchell can prove to the court that he is able to provide a safe and stable home environment for Mr Bradshaw, he will be placed under the care of the state for the foreseeable future.’
The room was silent.
Pete’s jaw fell open, and his heart felt as if it would burst out of his chest at any moment. He wasn't getting custody of Bradley.
His throat felt like it was closing in on itself and his legs went weak at the knees. He had to sit down to keep from falling over. The court was taking custody of the boy that he had been a second father to for all his life.
Bradley wasn’t theirs.
Or: In the aftermath of Goose's death, Pete refused to even think about the what if's, but years later he realises how big of a mistake that was.

‘Hate to say I told you so.’ Bradley commented as he joined Jake by the heater. He had to admit, the warmth was nice.
‘Go away.’ Jake muttered, his hands held dangerously close to the metal heater. The blue tint that had begun to show on his lips, that Bradley had been decidedly ignoring, had begun to recede, and he was looking noticeably more relaxed.
Bradley sighed, why was he like this? ‘Cmon Jake, you’re freezing,’

Summary
"Well, I'm sorry I care. Sorry for just trying to help," he stated testily, sarcasm lacing his tone.
"I don't need you, Wire. When will you get that into your thick skull?" Newt's words were tinged with a mix of frustration and sadness, his voice a poignant reflection of his inner turmoil.
Wire froze, his eyes studying Newt's features desperately, searching for something, anything, that could help him understand. He felt nothing but love and care for the boy in front of him, but he was being pushed away so firmly, despite his offers for help. "Newt-"
"I think you should leave." Newt's tone was firm and harsh.
Wire took a breath "But, I-“
"Just go Wire." Newt shook his head, his features unreadable. Wire swallowed, his stomach curling.
