• they’re doing some sort of winter meals-together-every-night thing

Summary
It’s the best he has felt on a tennis court since he won Wimbledon two years ago. All his tricks work, both his forehand and backhand shots always landing inside the court. He feels his flair coming back, confidence rising every time the spectators cheer for him and chant his name. He feels like a ballet dancer, smooth and elegant on the court. Jannik has no answer to his level. Not even his stellar serve can deny Carlos his title back. When he hits the last winner, he falls to the ground. After an entire season of drought, he’s a Grand Slam champion again. He smiles so widely his cheeks start to hurt and he buries his face in his hands, feeling a bit choked up.
Jannik engulfs him in a hug. “You were incredible. Artista. So beautiful.” Carlos hugs him tighter in response.

What had begun as an idle observation among the tour players had transformed with time into an unspoken rule, and then a spoken rule, then a generally incontrovertible fact.
It didn’t start out as an active decision, for Jannik. At first, of course, he wasn’t playing in any finals. Sure, he won a few matches, but the sixth set isn’t for winners. It’s for tournament winners. Champions. And their runners up.Later, when he won, he declined. When he lost, he was declined. No one desired him in that way. Long and lanky. Too quiet. Too cold. Too alien. An outlier. By the time that changed, helped along by a grand slam title and a gucci sponsorship, it was too late.
By that time, Jannik was untouchable.
Poised and professional, pious in his dedication to the game. Aloof, ascendant, and apparently all too alluring as a result.The fact remains. Jannik Sinner doesn't play the sixth set. Because he doesn’t lose.

Threatening. Dominating.
Carlos doesn't let himself think about the other possibility. About the wide hips and the legs that go on for fucking miles, and the shyness and the awkwardness in interviews and the hard-won smiles. Because if Jannik were an omega – well, that would be a dangerous thought, wouldn't it?

Rapid fire thoughts in French pour into his head, each more hysterical sounding than the last. He recognizes “merde”, “putain”, and “pensée” and that’s it. Unhelpful.
“Charles,” he murmurs, slightly apologetic, “French.”
Charles’ eyes get even bigger, his eyebrows shooting up to his hairline. He makes a noise that if Max were a slightly less merciful person he would call a squeak. Watching him make the absolutely unhinged connection in real time is fascinating. Then carefully, in tentative English, You are hearing my thoughts?
Miserable, Max nods. Then shrugs. Fuck.
“Max,” Charles practically hisses, his grip on Max’s hand going tighter. The pinprick of his nails feels like the only thing connecting Max to the earth. “What the fuck?”

Charles comes up with a plan to save himself, get an alpha he trusts, get Ferrari's money back, and keep his seat.

He and Charles are friends, kind of, and certainly closer now that they’ve ever been before, but he’s never really witnessed Charles having a PR-related meltdown before. They’re not that close.
Oh, well. A first time for everything, he supposes.
“Great!” Charles says cheerily, then unlocks his phone and shoves it in Max’s face. “Do you also know that we’re ranked second on Archive of Our Own?”
