Riddle Rosehearts had dreamed of this day, of this beautiful night when the sky lit up with pulchritudinous, yellow-lit lanterns that shone as brightly as the sun design that was embedded within the finely crafted cloth. It had forever seemed so far out of reach of his hands, whose thin arms could never extend much further than outside of the window he gazed at, longingly, for the past seventeen years of his preserved and—by Ace’s standards—incarcerated life.
“Incarcerated life” seemed like a ridiculous accusation for the other boy to make, given he was hardly privy to the excellent status that his mother had accomplished over the years–even before Riddle’s birth and childhood. She was a renowned medical mage, and with her harsh rules came positive and fulfilling consequences. But despite his naturally defensive state for his mother, the disobedient boy now sat comfortably in a canoe that the two had grabbed after a long and exciting day within the palace. Children and people alike, enamored with his long and breathtaking crimson hair, had braided numerous flowers into his hair as he and Ace danced around in the town square. It was a beautiful, invigorating day.

Scattered, torn rose bushes. Screams from students in all corners as they were chased and ‘beheaded’. The darkness that swarmed in the atmosphere, turning a once sunny day into a chilling, stormy sky. His friends fearful of what he had become, consumed by the need to exude power. How wonderful it felt at that moment. Power surging through his little body, his veins, his bones and muscles, swallowing him whole in giddy pleasure. As if nothing would ever give him such a high again. As if it wasn’t worth living if not to be overblotting.
Riddle Rosehearts woke up with a start, drenched in sweat, panting heavily as his grey eyes darted around his bedroom, grounding himself in that this is my bedroom and I am not outside in Heartslabyul’s rose maze. The overwhelming feeling didn’t stop; he simply couldn’t go back to sleep without compulsive checking.

Riddle gasped and begun to flail, but as if Ace could sense his defiance in being submissive, restrained him tightly with his arm muscles and cradled the redhead to his chest most effectively. “Oh Housewarden, don’t fall, this is what you wanted—we wanted—, right? To see my magic’s full potential?”

“Ace, there you are, thank goodness. You caused me quite the ruckus chasing you down.” The monster’s voice settled, now much more Riddle-like but still with an almost strained, echoey effect. Ace despised it. Ace despised *it* in its entirety. He hated the sudden softness that the monster treated him with, as if he were a lowly ant that needed to be accounted for and cared about. If anyone was the crybaby here, it was certainly Riddle, not Ace that needed to be treated more diligently with—everyone already walks on eggshells with the Heartslabyul Housewarden around, anyway. He sparingly recalled taunting the redhead with ‘mommy, mommy’, and wondered what pile of crap he landed himself in now that it was just him and the rose-red tyrant. No collared card soldiers were in sight nor within ear shot. Perhaps Riddle had quietly called them off, now having caught his prey himself.

When magic meets the arts, the world can't help but pay attention. Night Raven College was something that all prestigious families hoped to get their children into. Whether they grew into global superstars, skilled musicians, or powerful mages, was up to them. It guaranteed a family name to keep thriving. Only those who could truly handle it are picked out by the dark mirror. Another thing that made it stood out was its inclusivity to everyone— regardless of if they were an alpha, beta, or omega. The school constantly worked hard to make sure any accommodations were met for all.
