Summary
“And I have complete faith that you will be able to adjust to this new situation as tactfully as you handle everything, my dear.”
Toriel smiles at Kris and Susie. They both stare at her.
“Boyfriend,” Kris says, gaspy, like they’re waking up from a nightmare. “You’re telling me that he’s your boyfriend.”
“Yes, dear. Yes, I am.”
Kris glances at Susie. She knows this look. It means, do you want to get in massive trouble together? The answer is, as always, of fucking course I do.
“That’s funny,” Kris says, with a grin that begins in the corner of their mouth and creeps across the rest of their face. “Because me and Susie have something to tell you too.” -

Summary
That night, when Catti is downstairs getting a cup of water, she stops dead in Noelle’s kitchen doorway.
At the livingroom piano Kris is sitting in their pajamas. Not playing but shifting their fingers across the keys like muscle memory. Their face has a gentle kind of sadness.
At the top of the stairs, barely visible, is the looming shadow of December.
Catti presses herself back against the doorframe as Dess walks slowly down the stairs, staring at Kris. The way she’s looking at them makes Catti want to hide, makes her heart hammer like she’s in danger. She can’t tell what it is about the look, but she just feels somehow that it’s wrong.

Summary
Susie is holding hands with a boy. Noelle wonders why she’s dreaming about this.
Susie falls to her knees and clutches Kris’ limp body and she keeps holding hands with the boy, the boy that looks like Kris’ brother. Noelle thinks absently that this is a scarier dream than she’s ever had, and that Kris’ blood is matting in Susie’s hair as she tries to find their heartbeat.
Then Susie stands up, and Noelle knows with absolute certainty that Susie is going to kill her. Kris’ face reflects in Susie’s axe as she swings it back, and in the split second before Noelle blacks out, there is still an expression lingering on their face. Relief.
or; what if Noelle stepped off the switch in snowgrave.

Summary
And in the end everything was okay. It all happened, and they all got through it, and it was okay.
After, Susie held Noelle and Kris both, on the couch of the Dreemurr house, and they looked at each other across her and they were okay. Miss Toriel brought them pie and hot chocolate, and the heating unit buzzed the air burnt and close as a blanket from too long in the dryer. School doors opened like arms for them, back into a classroom lit eternally with afternoon sunlight.
And it was okay.
It was okay. -

Summary
“We should probably…” Susie trails off, staring blankly through the dark of the spare room. Late afternoon sun warms the shuttered window. “I dunno. Don't fuckin' know what we should do.”
“Should,” Kris spits. “Who cares 'bout should. What do we wanna do?” -

Summary
They keep giving her these looks. Bite me kind of looks. Bleed me out kind of looks.
Everything’s gotten bad. Susie knows Kris isn’t telling her something, isn’t telling her a lot of things, big things, things that suck the air out between them. But lately there is never much air between them at all. -

Summary
“I heard you, y’know.”
Susie wheels around and they’re standing there. Slouched, hand on the side of their house like they’re about to fall over. Tired, corner of the mouth smirk on their face. Their voice is different, like Noelle was saying. It doesn’t have that stereo crawl under it. It’s a little sad, a little higher than lower, kinda scratchy. How Noelle had described their ‘normal voice.’
But something is strange. Their face, it’s untensed somehow.
Why do they look so sad? -

Summary
They spent two weeks straight together, once. And then two years mostly together after that. Sharing a bed isn’t as uncomfortable as Susie thought it would be.
Kris sleeps with their face smushed into her collarbone, mouth slightly open, drooling. They wake up slow, and barely talk for the first couple hours of the morning. They take forever to shower, and even longer to mess around with their hair as it dries. Their toothbrush is green. Their face gets red and splotchy when they cry. Their mouth tastes like cinnamon. -

Summary
Susie’s head is tipped back on Kris’ desk, her eyes shut. They’re tugging their long fingernails through her hair, humming softly. True to Catti’s word, as they shift forward their sweater collar slips to reveal a series of small bruises. And they could be from Susie’s teeth, but something strange comes over Noelle, and she is suddenly certain that they’re not.

Summary
She’s got these wide eyes. Not wide in the same way Noelle’s eyes are, those snowglobe round, innocent sweet ones that she has, no. Susie’s are big like the sunset sky, yellow like it too, horizon-wide, nightfall sharp. In the dark like this, they glow like embers, glint like amber.
Kris feels like a bug in her amber. Stuck, totally, in the same frozen state that they got captured in the first time she looked at them. It’s weird. So weird. But she’s weird, too, so that makes it cool. -

Summary
“Don’t say it,” Noelle says quietly.
Kris turns to look at her, eyebrows raised. Noelle avoids their gaze by looking up, but ends up watching Susie again, which is exactly what she wanted to avoid. -

Summary
They hate their ribcage. They want to pry it open and crawl out of themself, taste the blood beneath their fingernails as they lick their hands clean, use a practiced knife swipe to carve a place for themself in some other body, pray it feels more like their own than the last one.

Summary
Noelle sits by the lake long enough that it feels like a dream, everything. The snow and the hospital and the watch glinting in the tinny light. She isn’t sure which part she wishes was fake the most.
In the morning at school there is no sign of anything different with Kris, nothing but their position, curled further into Susie’s side than normal, mouth grim. Berdly isn’t there. Noelle doesn’t think about it. -

Summary
The sinister purple light of the night leaks in through the half blinded window, casting Ganke’s skin a muddy lavender. Even a city as ugly as this one looks beautiful reflected in his eyes.
Maybe, seeing it like this, Miles understands why Ganke wants to save it so much.

Summary
“I wanna go see Ralsei.”
“But?”
“But i’m so fuckin’ tired. Can’t deal with his peppy bullshit this late.”
Kris tilts their head and finds their faces so close that they can feel her breath on their cheek. She smells like the mingling of crowd sweat and Noelle’s perfume, like the excitement of the night. Their heart flutters hopelessly.

Summary
Kris and Susie, ever searching for trouble and ever joined at the hip, had drifted out of the Holiday’s annual christmas party and into the hallways of Noelle’s house. Noelle followed, mostly out of instinct.

Summary
She bites down on her lip, looking out the window.
“This is not right. I hate this. I can't…i don’t know what to do anymore, Susie. I’ve been trying to live my life but it’s like there’s a hole in it. They were everywhere and I never paid enough attention to notice, and now they’re gone,”or; coping by way of talking and burning.

Summary
It was pouring cold rain, the kind that made you want to cup something warm in your hands.
Kris heard a knock on the door, muffled through the blankets they wrapped up to their ears. Their mom was already in bed.
They pulled it open to find Susie, completely drenched. Wind hit them as the realization did.Series
