Summary
Nicholas has spent years convincing himself that love is a means to an end and avoiding it at all costs. It is easier that way. Love hurts, love leaves. Love will ask things of Nicholas that he just isn't willing to give.
So this thing with Maki should be easy. There are just a few simple rules. The most important one being that under no circumstance, can Maki fall in love with him.
Unfortunately for Nicholas, there are a few things wrong with that. For starters, Maki is already catastrophically in love with him. To make matters worse, he has always been shit at following rules, too. But what the omega doesn't know won't kill him.
Or: The year Maki teaches Nicholas that maybe, just maybe, love isn't just a fictional thing that you lose yourself in. Maybe it is the thing that guides you home.

"I think I'm being robbed," Jo blurted out, silencing the stray words slipped between pack mates as eight pairs of eyes turned their attention to the lanky alpha at what.
"What?" Fuma was concerned, his brows furrowed as he leaned forward on the table separating them. "Why?"
"Well, my clothes are going missing!"
So absorbed was he in unraveling the mystery of his clothes vanishing that Jo didn't notice how Maki froze beside him, fingers suddenly digging into the cold glass of his drink as the omega fixated intently on the condensation clinging to it. Across from them, Nicholas and Harua exchanged a lingering glance, the Taiwanese man barely suppressing a laugh at Harua's barely perceptible nod.
"— so that's why I think someone is breaking into my apartment and stealing my clothes."
Jo's things keep disappearing, and he's going to get to the bottom of it.

Taki stiffens, his blades wobbling as he stops to look over his shoulder. “Excuse me?”
Maki’s holding his stare. He’s got long lashes, and Taki’s starting to think good things really do happen to jerk people. “Would it kill you to lighten up? We don’t wanna be here either.”

Out of all the challenges he faces as figure skater, Taki would humbly put being forced to share a rink with the local hockey club at the very top of the list. Particularly the team’s new defender, a rough and tumble boy with distracting dimples and a smart mouth.
Who also manages to bowl Taki over on the very first day.
(or: taki is a figure skater with something to prove to himself. maki is a hockey player with something to prove to everyone else. they collide. literally.)
