Summary
Maester Aemon still has his sight when Jon Snow arrives at Castle Black to swear his vows. Targaryen’s might have typically had pale hair and purple eyes, but Maester Aemon would recognise his family anywhere.
His vows have been tested three times before. This is his fourth and final test and, after nearly eighty years of being a bystander at the Wall whilst his family destroyed themselves, Aemon decides that enough is enough. He’s been a man of the Nights Watch for most of his life; but he’s been a Targaryen all his life.
He might be old and trapped at the Wall, but he grew up in Kings Landing and no one knows the Game of Thrones like he does.
And so, everything changes.

Jon jumped up from where he sat on the bed and whirled around to find the woman that he'd seen in his dreams sitting on the bed.

The War for the Dawn is over. The White Walkers have wiped out all life. All but Jon Snow and his weary band of refugees. Now the continent of Westeros is a cold, frigid wasteland inhabited only by the undead. It seems all hope is lost.
