In theory, it should be easier the second time around.
Curt knows what Owen looks like when he's dying, after all. He's seen it more times than he would ever wish on anyone – each addition to the ever-growing list is both a blessing and a curse.
A blessing, because for some unconscionable reason that has Curt thanking a God he does not believe in, it means that he comes back. Owen comes back to him with acrid words on his tongue and spite in his heart, but he comes back. A curse, because each spark of hope that stirs in Curt's chest is swiftly crushed, stomped out with a steel-toed boot. Snuffed. A reminder that Owen is only ever given back to Curt in order to twist the knife in his back when Owen is inevitably ripped away again.
In practice: it is not easier the second time around.
