He will gasp when being awakened, but his face remains stoic, even in sleep. He looks peaceful, pretty even, and Kel has to force his gaze away from Sunny’s dark eyelashes and rosy cheeks to turn his car’s engine on.

Summary
At first, she told herself she imagined the tension. Luz was the first person to make her question her future, the only person she had a somewhat solid connection with; it was inevitable for her to develop a small crush.
She could still punch Luz in the face with her lingering crush and eventually, it would dissipate like how her wounds did after a fight. Then, she could revert back to immediately leaving festivals instead of attending after-parties, where she’d be wholly intent on finding Luz and bickering with her.
It wasn’t until Luz pulled her into a desperate kiss in front of her family’s manor that Amity realized her old world was burning down.

Summary
Amity likes to tell herself she’s changed, likes to look in the mirror in the mornings, no longer finding traces of her mother’s polished hands in the purple of her hair. She likes to look over at Luz like she does now - her gaze landing on Luz’s sleeping form - to remind herself of how far she’s come.
But it’s ridiculously hard to undo years of uncompromised parenting, her hands intrinsically intertwined in the tangle of it all. It catches up to her inevitably, manifesting into her need for perfection, into the aching urge to prove her worthiness - even when surrounded by safety and love.
Some days, simply existing in her own skin felt impossible.

Summary
Jolts of electricity course intensely throughout her body, the stench of burnt skin filling her nose all at once. The pain is unbearable, her mind unable to form words as it swelters down her body. A strong force beckons her into the deep green waters that hold her weightless in place. It feels like hands are grabbing roughly at her, tugging her limbs in all the wrong directions. All Luz can do is scream, her throat burning as the taste of blood enters her mouth.
In the distance, she hears her name being called, and its voice sounds desperate, desperate enough that it sends chills down her spine. Before Luz can even open her mouth - her vision goes black.
Then, nothingness.

“....that sounds a bit too much,” Amity broke the silence first, the three of them - Eda, King, and her - at loss for words at Luz’s plan.
“A bit?!” King screeched. “I know you’re whipped, but dang girl! That’s way too much!"
Luz placed a hand under her chin, contemplating their words. She gazed back down at the array of papers spread haphazardly on the coffee table, filled with doodles and incoherent statements. Amity gave up on organizing them halfway through. They had a point.

Summary
Luz turns around, only to find the filtered colors of the stained glass lighting up Amity’s pale face; orange grazes the slope of her jaw, yellow highlighting the tip of her nose. Her golden eyes shine brilliantly as the sun itself, and Luz wishes she could be closer, just to see the small specks of brown in them, to see her cheeks flush up close. Her heart rages wildly like a crow in its cage at the sight, and she swallows a ball in her throat, suddenly quiet.
Amity is so, so pretty. Luz thinks she could write poetry just about her eyes, she could create sonnets about her smile, about how she organizes her notes for her, how she -
(Amity will have to call the healing coven if she doesn’t calm down soon, because Luz is sure she’ll die, from how fast her heart is beating.)

One thing Amity has learned about Luz is that she likes to grab at her friends as she dances, twirling with them, grabbing their hands, pointing as she lip-syncs - she’s touchy and extremely expressive when dancing, more than she usually is, which sends Amity into a frenzy.
Now, Luz begins to lip-sync and make eye contact with Amity, a light-hearted grin plastered across her face, hips sashaying to the awful song that croons on the radio.
Now, Amity decides it’d be a good time to die.

Summary
Catra roughly places her foot on the pavement, bringing the skateboard under her to a sudden halt. Her thoughts are swirling frantically now, palms sweaty as she reaches down to grab at her skateboard.
Running a hand through her curls, she gazes up at the familiar white house in front of her; teenagers are sprawled across the front lawn and porch with drinks in their hands. She can’t recognize any of them. The front porch light flickers in the blue of the night and a pop song can be heard faintly playing from the inside.
It’s nightfall - a little after 10 PM - and Catra has impulsively decided to crash Adora’s end-of-the-summer party after a small talk with Scorpia over the phone.

“Are you sure I’ve changed?”
The sun has now fully risen, its golden light completely encompassing both the gardens below them and their bodies that sway together on the balcony with Melog glued to their sides. Adora squints into its light now, momentarily watching the spots that dance in her vision. She cranes her head down to stare at Catra once more, thinking of what she had just asked.
The golden grazes Catra’s tender face, causing her to screw her eyes shut at its intensity before looking away and up at Adora - meeting her gaze and awaiting her response with obvious anticipation. Adora stares down at her, into her blue and yellow eyes that are wide and brimmed with tears. She smiles.

Maybe it’s the fact that Adora’s been playing All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey on repeat for the past month, maybe it’s the fact that their three year anniversary is just around the corner, or maybe it’s because Christmas has somewhat grown on her since living with Adora (as much as she hates to admit it).
But when she walks to her car in the evenings, her eyes linger on the Zales across the street more than usual.
