Klaus’ lips quirk to one side in amusement. “You think I’m a hallucination?”
Five barks out a humourless laugh. “What’s the alternative? That I rented a haunted cottage?”
“Oh, everywhere’s haunted,” Klaus says with a dismissive wave. “Just ‘cause you don’t see something doesn’t mean it’s not there.”
“And just because I do see it doesn’t mean it’s real,” Five mutters.
“Hey.” Klaus jabs a finger in Five’s knee, hard, and gives him an annoyed pout. Static shock snaps between them at the touch. “How’s that for real?”
“Ow!” Five reflexively kicks at him. “What’s your fucking problem? You’re the one that’s trespassing here.”
“Trespassing?” Klaus says, incredulous. “Me?” Then he shrugs. “Yeah, I guess, in a way…”
Five rubs the spot and scowls, one brow arched at Klaus. “Also, aren’t you awfully solid for a ghost?”
“Are you an expert on ghosts, then?” Klaus challenges.
“Are you?” Five snaps back, just to be belligerent.
“Actually…” Klaus draws himself up.
