the smart thing to do would be to take the escape route, go back to reading his lines and just pretend this entire thing never happened. it was the right thing to do, perhaps it would haunt him for the coming weeks but it was the sensible thing to do.
naturally, tsukasa’s mouth overtakes his rationale.
“i wouldn’t mind,” tsukasa muttered, eyes darting away from rui. “it would just be practice. for a future show we might have to do.”
a horrid attempt at reasoning. not a single show they had participated in required such a skillset, especially if it required the act of literally kissing his own best friend.
rui opened his mouth slightly to try and protest, but after opening and closing it a few times, akin to a fish out of water, but he shook his head and coughed awkwardly. “i don’t foresee such a show we’d commit to, but if it would benefit you..”

“tsukasa-kun,” rui calls out again after another a minute of silence. “come into the water, at least. the weather is especially hot today, i’m sure of it.”
tsukasa doesn’t even bat him an eye. “actually, it’s quite nice here in the shade.”
“come on, tsukasa-kun!” rui gathers two handfuls of pool water in the palms of his hands and swings it towards the lounge chair where tsukasa was once comfortably sitting on. the water lands on his knee with a splash. “i’ll stop bothering you after, pinky promise,” rui asks as politely as he can, blinking amiably as he waits.
tsukasa sighs, long and loudly, always so dramatically as he ignores his quickened heartbeat, “you never do, you know,” he grumbles under his breath, but he finally slots in his bookmark, puts the book down and sits upright.

summer is here, and tsukasa finds himself warmer than usual, despite being once unaffected by the heat. rui doesn’t make it any better.
