Summary
“I wanted to kiss you, Mel. I still want to kiss you. I want to kiss you right now in the locker room, everyone in the ED be damned. I’m a selfish man. But I’m a selfish man because it feels so good to kiss you and touch your skin and just be close to you. You make me feel good, Mel.”
While he had been talking, she had slowly made her way closer to him, her locker now closed and her eyes filled with tears. She hesitantly raised her right hand, cupping his face as he closed his eyes and leaned into her touch, trying his best not to burst into tears. He moved his face in her hand, lightly pressing his lips to the palm of her hand, only opening his eyes when she spoke. He looked at her through her hand on his face, trying his best to show her that he meant what he was saying.
“Frank.”
It was when she said his name and he blinked that a single tear fell from the corner of his eye.

Summary
They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.

Summary
“We’re friends, aren’t we?” she asks a bit quieter, like she was worried someone would hear. He hadn’t exactly called her his friend, but considering the fact that he would find her in any crowded room, it may have been a given.
“Yeah.” He gives her a bit of a smile, but it feels a little sad, maybe even a touch pitiful. “Friends,”

or; mel king thinks there's no possible way frank langdon could see her as more than a friend, but she's kinda pissed off about that fact, but also she's incredibly wrongBookmarked by savemelangdon

Summary
Loving Mel is strikingly different from loving Abby, as much as he hates himself for even making the comparison. She had been keeping herself and her sister afloat for years through college and medical school, all while maintaining a bright attitude that drew him to her in the first place. She was grounded enough in reality for him to know that she was not wholly innocent, but there was a brilliant allure to the way she interacted with the world despite knowing how cruel it could be. Her polite exterior was mistaken far too often for fragility, even though she may be the toughest person that he has ever met.
When he takes care of her, he knows that it is only because she has allowed him to, not because she expects him to. There is a difference between those notions.
