Whether she's alive, whether she's well. He never pries into her private life—who she beds these days is no business of his. And while she remains steadfastly unmarried, he doesn’t linger on why that may be. But he needs to know that she's still stomping around, doing good in the world, regardless of the danger or difficulty or the space by her side. A space that is no longer his to claim.
