That is why he took the Arkenstone, it was only to prevent a battle, and he would rather not have done it. Perhaps he wouldn't have done it if Gandalf had been around. But even under these most dire circumstances, Bilbo could not find him. But as it happened, he did find someone else: a witch named Esmeralda Weatherwax. And she wants to have a little chat with Thorin Oakenshield.

Every character in this story is a specific imagining of a real historical person (aside from Anderson himself). Contains Middle Scots dialogue. I may eventually write more of this, if I can figure out some kind of solid plot for it.
