    Summary

Wriothesley smirked, an amused glint in his eyes. “I held up my end of the bargain. Now I believe it’s your turn, my dear Iudex,” he said as he stopped a few feet away from Neuvillette, looking down at him.

“Of course. State your terms,” said Neuvillette calmly, hoping to conceal the nervous energy that was taking hold of him as he apprehended the price he would have to pay.

Wriothesley was still smirking when he spoke. “All I want from you… Is to spend a relaxing evening with me over some drinks. To celebrate our victory.”

What starts as an innocent request shapes into something not so innocent.

    Summary

It is easy to imagine, the two of them passing out presents to the children at the fete. Wriothesley handing him a box, Neuvillette’s fingers brushing against his as he accepts the box. Their eyes meeting across the top of the present. A charged, knowing moment passing between them. And then, later, Wriothesley might pull Neuvillette aside, might confess to him that his heart is too full in the way the Neuvillette’s is, and Neuvillette might, at last, have someone to love and be loved by on the Solstice.

    How wonderful that might be.

What a shame it must remain a fantasy.

Neuvillette finds himself trapped in a time loop on the eve of the midwinter solstice.

“I…I think you’ve found me out, Monsieur.” Wriothesley can’t help but laugh. He covers his mouth with the back of his hand as he shakes his head. “I was trying to be discreet.”

“I apologize. I was just as curious, I fear.” A blush rises to the Neuvillette's face, and he taps at the front cover of the book. “You do have your picture in the back. I cannot be the first to recognize you.”

“Are you enjoying it?” Wriothesley decides boldness may be a better approach. “The last book in the series is set to release early next year. You’ve timed your reading perfectly for it.”

    - Wriothesley, a well-known crime fiction writer from the UK, and Neuvillette, a judge based in Paris, meet while on holiday in Chamonix over Christmas. “Is love to be a poison, an opioid, or both?”

“Neither.” Wriothesley’s voice reverberates through them both in reply. Neuvillette shudders as Wriothesley’s fingers weave into the hair at the base of his neck, sweeping fine white strands away from his nape. “Though, tonight, you infatuate me. Consume my thoughts entirely.

    - Lord Neuvillette attends Duke Wriothesley's masquerade ball, celebrating the turn of the season. In festive spirits, drunk off wine and fine food, and after months apart, they find a secluded place to rekindle their affection for one another.

    Summary

“Furina,” he tries again. Furina smiles at him, clearly satisfied. Neuvillette continues: “You are correct. I have invited you to discuss a different matter. I—” Furina nods. Again, she does not press him for more. She waits, patiently, as Neuvillette looks for the right words. “I am in need of advice.”

Furina freezes. The macaron she had just picked up falls back on the plate. She stares at Neuvillette with an unreadable expression. He holds her gaze to the best of his ability.

“An advice?” She echoes. Neuvillette hums. “From me?” Another hum. Furina blinks again. Her gaze darts between Neuvillette and the pastries and Neuvillette again. She visibly swallows. “Ah, ahahaha, I mean, of course you would come after my great wisdom!” (...)

“I have received an offer recently.” The beginning is as good a start as any. “A courtship offer.”

Neuvillette finds out a shocking truth about Wriothesley's and his feelings. It changes everything.
