"I fell for you before I even imprinted on you," he growled with frustration.
Frustration aimed at me or aimed at himself, that I didn't know. I should be worried or scared about his history of volatile phasing, but I wasn't. As unpredictable as he was, there was no denying that I didn't need any safety net when I was with him.
"Do you even want this?" He motioned between the two of us, "do you even want me? Because just say the word, just say no, and all of this- most of this goes away."
I say nothing and let a pause pass between the two of us before I open my mouth, "will it hurt? If I reject you, the bond... us, will it hurt?"
He doesn't miss a beat, "yes."

Toni’s eyes linger to the man to their right. Paul seems unfazed, maybe a little amused, scanning the clearing for his friends. His brow is furrowed as his eyes wash over the boys, and land swiftly on Toni.
What an incredibly fucking weird feeling.
It’s like something inside of her shifts into its correct place with a satisfying click - there’s something, and she doesn’t know what it is, but there’s something deep in her chest cavity that was off-kilter before that exact moment.
To her surprise, Paul’s expression changes completely, seemingly instantaneous upon looking at her. She watches as any pressure in his brow seems to relax entirely, the man’s jaw dropping open as he views her. His eyes look so soft all of a sudden, the look on his face seeming possessed, entranced in some way.
Entranced seems the perfect word to describe it. Before she can register what’s happening, the man has quite literally fallen to his knees, the look in his eyes nearing how a religious zealot would view an incarnation of God himself.
